TIERNEY, The Honorable Joseph M. "Sonny" Of Hyde Park and South Boston, December 13, died at home surrounded by his loving wife and family after a brief illness with cancer, at the age of 68. Cherished husband of Pat (James) Tierney of Hyde Park. Son of the late Nan and William Tierney. Devoted father of Maura Tierney of NY and CA, Dierdre and her husband John Pulgini and Joseph J. and his wife Andrea Tierney all of Milton. Brother of Robert and William Tierney of South Boston. Loving Sasha to my friend Jack and Kate and Nick Pulgini of Milton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Most Precious Blood Church, Hyde Park, Thursday morning at 10. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Wednesday evening 3-8. Former Boston City Councilor for 16 years and President for 5 terms. Mayoral candidate 1987, practicing attorney, member of Boston Bar Asssociation, board member First Priority Credit Union, lifetime member Savin Hill Yacht Club, graduate of Suffolk University Law School. In lieu of flowers donations in Sonny's memory may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston, 50 Congress St., Suite 730, Boston 02109. Interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
